COOK.
Trained Chef
I have always been fascinated by food. As a little girl I would spend hours watching my Mom in the kitchen make classic Italian dishes exactly how her mother would make. The endless possibilities of flavors, textures, colors, combinations…the list goes on and on. The culinary world is so diverse and all I wanted to do was learn more. I decided pretty early on during junior year of high school that I wanted to look for collegiate programs that included food and health/nutrition; this is also when I began working in kitchens. Johnson & Wales University of RI was the perfect choice for me because they offered a bachelors program in Culinary Nutrition. My first two years of school were strictly focused on culinary arts and honing in on my chef skills (I even had the opportunity to cook for Emeril Lagasse…BAM!!!). I then had to apply and gain acceptance into the nutrition program for my final two years of school where we focused more on clinical dietetics and nutrition. The balance between being able to counsel clients/patients on how nutrition therapy can help them while also teaching them how to cook the food properly to taste good is honestly unmatched.

EAT.
Registered Dietitian
From there I endured the grueling process of dietetic internship matching and was accepted into the year long clinical dietetic internship program at Yale New Haven Hospital in New Haven, CT. Myself, along with 10 other accepted graduates from around the country, completed this year-long experience at one of the most prestigious hospitals in the region. I learned how to provide medical nutrition therapy to a large variety of patients while under the guidance of preceptor dietitians. A few short months after the internship was over, I sat for my registration board exam and passed! I could then officially call myself a Registered Dietitian and started putting all of my hard work to the test with my own patients at Rhode Island Hospital. As a Clinical Dietitian, I was able to experience first-hand how medical nutrition therapy can benefit all different kinds of patients in the acute care setting. The most rewarding was being able to work alongside the Providence Bruins Men’s Hockey Team during my sports performance rotation in helping them with pre-game fueling snack ideas! But working as a hospital-based dietitian was not the end goal for me. I was sitting in my dark basement office one day and decided to do a web search on how to start my own nutrition business. Triad Performance & Nutrition, LLC was born in February of 2021!

TRAIN.
Certified Personal Trainer
In between all of this schooling and learning, I was a very competitive soccer player. I started at the age of 4 and really never stopped. I started playing for a premier club team at the age of 10 and spent most weekends with my team traveling around New England year-round for games and tournaments. I ended up playing all four of my high school years on the varsity team, and was able to earn some scholarship money from Johnson & Wales to play for their Division III women’s soccer team. This is really where my love for the gym and love for lifting started because once soccer was over I needed a new kind of structure that I didn’t know I needed before because it was provided for me. I started to truly understand how my own body works, moves, grows, and thrives in that type of environment. The more I learned about fitness through my journey the more I wanted to start helping people in their own journeys. I set out to achieve a certification in personal training from the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM) and started working in the field within 3 months of completing the nationally accredited course. With my recent experience going through pregnancy and postpartum, I then setout to achieve an additional certification specializing in Women’s Fitness to work with those populations too! I am continually motivated by the goals that clients set for themselves and are able to surpass them along with following a healthy non-diet approach to cooking and nutrition – without feeling like they have to be working out every single day.

MOM.
First Time Boy Mom
Fast forward a few years to July of 2024 when I found out I was pregnant with our very first baby! I had been working full-time as a CEO in my business for about 3 and a half years now and after getting married in October of 2023 really knew that my identity was ready for the shift into motherhood. Managing pregnancy which included: first trimester nausea and exhaustion, second trimester acid daily reflux, and third trimester SIJ dysfunction and towards the end feeling just incredibly uncomfortable was one of the hardest journeys I had been on thus far in my life…and then labor happened. I succeeded in 12 hours of unmedicated labor, but had reached the point of total exhaustion and knew my body needed help, so made the decision to call in the epidural which helped! But baby boy was stuck in my pelvis and had his umbilical cord stuck somewhere so his heartrate was dropping dangerously low with every single contraction. After a few more hours of managing that and trying to push for an hour the doctor made the decision to transition to an emergency C-section. Brooks Everett King was born that morning within 5 minutes of entering the OR because it became a true emergency and they had to get him out ASAP to save his life. We were both safe and alive, but man it was a really traumatic experience to say the least. Lots of healing and processing had to be done to heal those wounds (physically and emotionally). Living this entire experience gave me a newfound journey to share with clients and so my business naturally evolved into working with more pregnancy and postpartum women to help navigate these challenges together! We stop just surviving and learn how to actually THRIVE in our lives as moms and high achieving women without restrictive eating, crazy 2 hour long workouts, feeling gross in our bodies, and putting ourselves last on the priority list. We deserve more – to become the best version of ourselves to show up as the best mom, wife, partner, friend, employee, etc.!
